cups-pdf software package provides PDF writer backend for CUPS, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install cups-pdf
cups-pdf is installed in your system.
Make ensure the cups-pdf package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep cups-pdf *
You will get with cups-pdf package name, version, architecture and description in a table
